International interest in Vanguard is growing Lithuania intends to acquire multirole military ships from Norway, Defence Minister Dovilė Šakalienė said on Monday after a meeting with her Norwegian counterpart Tore O. Sandvik in Lithuania. “These are Vanguard-class modular ships, which (...) can be used for various missions. Our aim is to make this the optimal platform,” she said, adding: "The decisions will significantly strengthen our military capabilities, as well as enable our defence industry to cooperate effectively in the context of industrial cooperation." Strengthening Norwegian-Lithuanian industry relations We are pleased to have entered a collaboration agreement with the WESTERN SHIPYARD GROUP (WSY) to cooperate in implementing the Lithuanian Navy's fleet renewal program. The agreement marks the two countries' commitment to actively develop relations in the areas of high-tech and defence solutions development and to contribute to strengthening security. The document was signed by Arnoldas Šileika, CEO of WSY Group, and Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, at the Norwegian embassy in Vilnius, on the eve of the Norwegian-Lithuanian Business Forum dedicated to defence. “With strong expertise in deg and building specialized vessels and growing experience in building offshore patrol ships, we are actively contributing to the development of the security and defence industry in Lithuania. Becoming a part of the naval defence shipbuilding industry is one of our long-term strategic goals,” said Šileika. “We are pleased to establish a collaboration agreement with the Western Shipyard Group to further strengthen cooperation between our companies and across Norwegian and Lithuanian industry.
