What if constantly aiming for perfection is exactly what’s getting in the way of real progress? In his talk “How to Get Better at the Things You Care About,” Eduardo Briceño explains that top performers don’t just keep pushing they create space to slow down and practice with intention. They move between two essential mindsets: 👉🏽 Performance mode: focused on execution, avoiding mistakes 👉🏽 Learning mode: focused on experimenting, making mistakes, and learning from them. It’s not about choosing one or the other. It’s about knowing when to switch. Because true improvement doesn’t happen when you’re trying to get everything right. 🚀 When was the last time you paused to improve—not just perform?

"Mistakes are bad.” That’s what we’ve been taught since childhood. But actually, they are essential for learning and for cognitive adaptive improvement. 🧠 From a neuroscience perspective, practice plays a crucial role in our learning process. When we make a mistake, the brain generates a specific electrical signal known as error-related negativity (ERN). This signal occurs almost instantly after the mistake, helping us adjust our actions and improve over time. The brain detects errors before we even become conscious of them. This process is so fast that, in many cases, our brain knows we made a mistake before we do. But what happens when we face a similar situation after making a mistake? The answer is crucial. The next time we attempt a task, the brain adjusts our predictions and strategies. Instead of repeating the mistake, we are more capable of adapting, making precise adjustments to our behavior. This phenomenon is what allows us to improve and learn through repetitive practice. 🔁 👉 What’s one mistake you’ve learned the most from and how did it change the way you work?

Ever wondered why your formula returns a million zeros? When you use something like =LEN(A:A), Excel doesn’t stop at the end of your list — it calculates the entire column, including empty cells. The result? Unnecessary zeros and a much slower file. 💡The fix is simple: wrap it with TRIMRANGE() to automatically cut out the empty space. That way, your formulas only process the actual data. It not only cleans up your results, it also boosts performance, especially if you're using dynamic arrays or lambda functions. 👉 Want to explore more?

Real learning happens when we make mistakes, get , and try again. That’s what triggers our brain’s error-related negativity, a powerful mechanism that rewires how we perform. Understand how this works is the key to building teams that learn faster, adapt better, and drive greater innovation.
