    In early 2013, after more than 10 years of traditional, on-premise IT infrastructure, iG decided to move all its infrastructure to the Amazon Web Services.

    iG portal had at the time many different application stacks, including Node.JS, LAMP, Java Servlets, Django and Rails Apps. We also used MySQL, Postgresql, MongoDB and Cassandra as database solutions. Most services were running on Linux, but the operation team also ed Windows Servers (AD, IIS, MsSQL).

    In early 2013, after more than 10 years of traditional, on-premise IT infrastructure, iG decided to move all its infrastructure to the Amazon Web Services.

    iG portal had at the time many different application stacks, including Node.JS, LAMP, Java Servlets, Django and Rails Apps. We also used MySQL, Postgresql, MongoDB and Cassandra as database solutions. Most services were running on Linux, but the operation team also ed Windows Servers (AD, IIS, MsSQL).

    All systems had to be migrated within a very short period of only 4 months due to the current on-premise datacenter contract.

    The reasoning for our cloud strategy was mostly cost savings, agility, focus on core competences and synergy with other companies of the group that were already running on AWS.

    Using automations tools like Puppet and with a small team of people we managed to complete the migration on time and on the target budget.

    After the battle was over, we kept optimizing the usage of our services on AWS, always aiming for an cost effective infrastructure for the iG portal.
