The challenges of the energy industry against the expectations of young professionals

Given the transformations that society faces, the industrial sectors are being challenged in how to deal
with generations of professionals in the job market. Today, the new generation of young professionals
has a unique profile once they were the first to grow in a technological and connected environment,
and are anxious for a challenging and meaningful job, where they can have opportunities and learning
experiences that intertwine their professional and personal lives. Through this…Given the transformations that society faces, the industrial sectors are being challenged in how to deal
with generations of professionals in the job market. Today, the new generation of young professionals
has a unique profile once they were the first to grow in a technological and connected environment,
and are anxious for a challenging and meaningful job, where they can have opportunities and learning
experiences that intertwine their professional and personal lives. Through this scenario, this paper
aims to present expectations of these young professionals facing three challenges within the energy
industry market: Energy Matrix and the Oil Industry, which raises the discussion of the challenges of
attracting a new generation of professionals more socially conscious to the oil and gas companies,
which seek to position themselves in an energy matrix transition environment; Young Professionals
and Organizations, presenting the questions of today's professionals and how this new profile
challenges the organizations inside to transform their structure aiming the cycle of talent; Digital and
the Future of Work that shows the perspectives of the young professionals facing the process of digital
transformation and how the positioning and investments of the companies of the sector will influence
the future of the work. This work understands that, faced with a scenario of changes in different
contexts (business, people and technology), the reflection of how companies in the energy sector and
the new generations will face these challenges together needs to be raised, aiming at a more
sustainable and digital society.

Local content in oil and gas sector. Case Study: Brazil and Norway

The industrial policies are state tools to promote industrial sectors when it has feasible opportunities for economic growth of a country. Among the industrial policies, there are the Local Content Policies (L) which are tools to value goods and services national origin, and build an industry that is sustainable and competitive. The brazilian oil industry is reinvigorating since opening of the economy in the late 90s and oil discoveries in Brazilian pre-salt region, with the inclusion of new investments between partnerships of public and private companies, establishing the country a unique opportunity of development. To take advantage of these investments and consolidate a strong industrial chain, the L are being applied in country, mobilizing the entire national oil chain. In this work, we described a comparison of current L being used in Brazil in relation to another country that has consolidated its oil industry through such policies, Norway. The focus of L in this work will be presented as a comparative study between the two countries on issues of Organizational Structure and Regulatory, Development and Competitiveness of Supply Chain, Labor Qualification, Generation and Knowledge Transfer: Research and Development, and the Metrics to determine the minimum levels of local content. The paper presents the different levels of maturity that the oil industry has reached in each country. Norway was able to build and consolidate its oil industry in the second half of the twentieth century and today has its internationally competitive industry. But Brazil is still in development phase of implementation of L and oil sector, which suffers challenges and questions of how policies are being exploited on a scenario where the market is undergoing a large containment investments and commodity price fluctuations puts in question until the time L should be required, and if required with which minimum levels.
