We applied and received the very first Brazilian Little League Charter in 2004 and subsequently ed to send the first ever Brazilian Little League team to compete in the Latin American Regional Little League tournament in Guatemala City in 2006. Kids on the team where from very poor neighborhoods on the outskirts of Sao Paulo and had been practicing baseball in Pirituba, Perus, and Caieiras neighborhoods for many years. We decided to make their efforts official by ing them with…
We applied and received the very first Brazilian Little League Charter in 2004 and subsequently ed to send the first ever Brazilian Little League team to compete in the Latin American Regional Little League tournament in Guatemala City in 2006. Kids on the team where from very poor neighborhoods on the outskirts of Sao Paulo and had been practicing baseball in Pirituba, Perus, and Caieiras neighborhoods for many years. We decided to make their efforts official by ing them with the Little League. The kids came from very poor families who weren't ive or able to provide the means to buy baseball equipment, basic travel gear and in many cases, footwear or food. We ed the kids with the Brazilian government and received the necessary travel documents to travel to Guatemala and compete in the Little League World Series Elimination tournament. It was the first time for all of the 20 kids to have been on an airplane and for most of them to also be outside of Sao Paulo. The local kids still practice and play baseball nearly every weekend due to the longstanding dedication and heart of Agnaldo Verissimo.
