Participants at IDDS 2012 Brazil developed affordable technologies that could generate a positive effect on the city’s environment and on the quality of life of its inhabitants living in poverty.

Proyectos

  • Battery Charger – International Development Design Summit Participant

    Villagers in Ghana with no access to electricity spend a lot of their income on charging their cell phone batteries. Working with a group during the International Development Design Summit we developed a low cost charger to be used by small entrepreneurs in the villages.

  • Cultural Center in a Low-Income Community

    Santo Antonio, in Embu, is a typical favela in Brazil. Children have no access to entertainment and spend most of their free time on the streets. Working with a team from MIT’s D-Lab we set up a cultural center in the heart of the Favela.

  • Low Cost Infant Incubator – International Development Design Summit

    Working with a group during the International Development Design Summit, our proposal was to design a safe incubator that could be used in local health centers in the developing world, be easily assembled, be portable, need minimal operating capabilities and would keep the infant warm and hydrated.

  • Brazilian Indigenous Village Immersion

    Together with a team from MIT’s D-Lab, from a local school in Bodoquena and from the University of Sao Paulo, I spent 15 days working on projects to improve the of low-income households in the village by adaptation of low-cost and sustainable technologies.

  • Social Development National Meeting (ENEDS)

    Organizer of the fifth edition of the meeting. The two days event promotes the scientific exchange that enables participants to discover, communicate and discuss experiences in engineering projects based on social technology. Sustainability was the theme of this edition of the meeting.
