As a consequence, scheduling is an important issue as it is concerned with the optimal assignment of patients to hospital resources.     According to OCDE’s Health Statistics 2015, several European countries had faced further reductions in health spending in 2013. Therefore, productivity has increased and process orientation has become more and more important in healthcare institutions. As a consequence, scheduling is an important issue as it is concerned with the optimal assignment of patients to hospital resources. However, this field has special characteristics that make it a complex domain. Thus, agent technology emerges as a promising paradigm for the modelling, design and development of such a complex system. This work provides a literature review of agent technology applied in healthcare, specifically in scheduling problems.
