Over the last year, I've written about, studied and tried to meet as many companies as possible building compliant on/off ramps into stablecoins, smart liquidity, orchestration and even non USD stablecoins -replicating the success of models like Bridge, Tether and others. Very excited to partner with Avenia who is building the Bridge + Tether for Brazil, and colead their inaugural round. Avenia is in many ways a nice example of Fluent Ventures strategy: 1. Company executing a global playbook, in a global category - with a massive and expanding market - but executed by local leaders with deep industry expertise 2. Partner with top local funds to colead the round, in this case with my good friends luiz guilherme manzano and alexandre mello from big_bets and work with Sung Lim from Grão 3. Rapid but efficient "camel" traction. The company completed over R$3b in transactions (2m individual transactions). They did this profitably the whole time - having more money in their bank by the time we invested than when they started the company. Non-USD Stablecoins: A growing trend you should be watching ⬇️ USD-denominated stablecoins dominate the conversation, and for good reason. Dollars are in high demand globally, especially in emerging markets and international trade (see my previous post on Eurodollars). But blockchains aren’t just for dollars. The U.S. just took a historic step toward stablecoin regulation — a milestone that could further accelerate the growth of cross-border payments with stablecoins in Latin America!! This week, the U.S. Congress made major progress on two key bills: - The Senate Banking Committee approved the GENIUS Act - The House of Representatives is advancing the STABLE Act, with bipartisan . What do these bills propose? 1. Stablecoins must be backed 1:1 by highly liquid assets (like USD or Treasury bonds). 2. Only regulated entities (banks or Fed-ed issuers) can issue them. 3. Clear rules around reserves, audits, and AML/KYC compliance. 4. A framework that s innovation while protecting consumers and the financial system. At El Dorado, we see it clearly: this legal framework could be the final push needed for stablecoins like USDT to become the new standard for cross-border money transfers. We witness it every day: - People sending USDT from Brazil to Venezuela. - Freelancers and remote workers, migrating from PayPal, and Wise, to stablecoins - Families receiving remittances in minutes in Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia, and off-ramp into their local currency. Clear regulation in the U.S. doesn’t just validate the use case of stables — it can bring more trust, liquidity, and mass adoption, strengthening the infrastructure behind global cross-border flows.
