    Mutation testing presents high efficacy in of revealed faults, but with high computational costs, since it is necessary to execute a great number of mutants. To reduce such costs several strategies exist. They, in general, select a reduced number of mutants that are able to maintain great mutation scores. More recently, the Higher-Order Mutation (HOM) testing has appeared to generate mutants that describe more than one fault and are more difficult to kill. This kind of test can also be used as a cost reduction strategy. However, few works in the literature evaluate HOM-based strategies with this focus, comparing them with other existing strategies. This work has as goal to obtain more evidences in the usage of HOM for reducing mutation testing costs. To this end, we present results comparing four HOM-based strategies with the conventional ones: Random Mutant Selection, Selective Mutation, and a Search-Based Mutation using Genetic Algorithm. The analysis considers the number of selected mutants, number of test cases, mutation score and efficiency measures. The Selective Strategy presents the best results considering all programs and strategies. Among the HOM-based strategies, Each-Choice is the best one.
