There is, then, a…
The term sustainability has been acquiring an ever-growing visibility in our modern society, mainly due to environmental problems and its impacts on Earth. How compatible, however, is sustainability with capitalism and with the way of life and production adopted? This research provides an exposition of the main theories about sustainability and its relation with the capitalism, specifically with the issue of economic growth and its impact on sustainability in the long run. There is, then, a critical evaluation of these theories, many of whom s zero-growth, and also a brief discussion on its possible impacts on the development of undeveloped countries. By the end, some final thoughts are made about the subject of this study and about what should be the next steps of research.
